Introduction

The few years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced people to change their lifestyle and adapt to any unexpected situations. The new lifestyle of remote working affected post pandemic hiring trends globally in several different fields, including software development & technology.

At Seven Peaks Software, we are facing those problems too, however, keeping up with the current trends and by using the right techniques have helped us successfully in finding the right candidates – even in the tough times we are in.

Post pandemic hiring trends that will be prominent in the next 5 years

Technology playing more roles in modern recruitment

Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams are not only taking part in the new way of remote-working but are also changing several hiring processes as well. This is perhaps the most important recruiting trend during this time, as virtual interviews save time and eliminate any geographic borders – making it possible for recruiters to meet larger pools of talented candidates.

According to shrm.org, 70% of Linkedin users agreed that hybrid hiring (virtual and in-person interviews) will become a new standard of recruiting processes.

Diversity recruitment strategies

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are becoming the core factors to what modern-day job seekers are looking for in workplaces today.

Who wouldn’t want to work in a place where they can be their authentic true-self and embrace the differences?

Embracing differences and creating a multi-cultural working environment can make your company standout from others. A good & genuine diversity recruitment strategy can help to show your potential and current employees that your company takes these values seriously for their team members.

Some of these strategies include:

  • Committing to diversity, equity, and inclusion to being the first step to everything (candidates can recognize when it’s fake!)
  • Communicate and show your commitment to attract candidates.
  • Constantly update your employees to make sure that everyone feels comfortable.
  • Global hiring can help build a truly diverse workplace.

Technical roles growing in higher demand

With technologies becoming integral to every business and sector, another recruiting trend surely involves an increase in demand for tech people. Between 2019–2020, the number of tech jobs in the USA increased to almost 60,000 positions, which is about 1.2% higher — via Forrester.

From the same survey, data scientists and cybersecurity experts proved to be in extremely high demand; with 94% and 10% increased respectively.

The number of tech positions skyrocketed because so many companies are shifting to remote working during the pandemic. As technology is here to stay, the number of open positions for software development and other technical roles will more likely stay higher for the next few years to come.

Moreover, the average salaries of the tech field gradually increase since 2020 due to the highly in demand tech jobs.

5 Strategies for recruitment to overcome challenges to during and after the pandemic

1) Remote or hybrid working is more preferable

Even though working from home can be frustrating, some people are enjoying it and find it more productive than going to the office full time. Many companies are considering adding a remote or hybrid working policy to satisfy the needs of their employees.

2) Leverage remote hiring to expand hiring pools

Remote hiring and working can bring talented candidates from all around the world to the HR.

3) Digitizing the recruiting process

As more people see your job opportunities, the number of applicants will increase. Digital tools are needed to make some tasks faster and more convenient.

4) Job skills are evolving

Personal development skills increased 44% among recruiters in 2020 — according to LinkedIn.

Soft skills, especially adaptability, are now important to the organization as employees need to be able to handle changes. For example, shifting to video conferences and virtually onboarding new employees.

5) Utilize digital marketing to showcase job opportunities to more candidates

With covid-19, many companies are no longer accepting newcomers. Some potential employees might assume that your company is not hiring as well, so it is important to make sure that hiring advertisements are being seen by the target group.

Conclusion

Adopting new technologies and keeping up with the current trends can greatly optimize your recruiting process in today’s remote-working digital age.

In the near future, some of these post pandemic hiring trends  might change. However, technology will be sure to evolve just as how humans need to adapt themselves to survive and be where they are today.

After all, since recruiting trend will constantly shift in response to changing situations, adaptability is one of the most important skills that both employers and employees need in order to stand out in today’s job market.
