Cloud-Native Monitoring & Industrial UX for Global Drilling
Overview
The client is an international market leader in real-time drilling engineering and autonomous drilling systems, supporting high-stakes offshore and onshore operations in over 30 countries. As a Technical Organization archetype, they required a partner capable of executing complex engineering modernization across a global fleet of 200+ rigs. Seven Peaks was engaged as the digital delivery and execution partner to transition their mission-critical monitoring infrastructure from legacy rig-based silos to a centralized, cloud-native platform.
The Challenge
In the asset-intensive Oil & Gas sector, operational transparency is a safety-critical requirement.
The client’s legacy systems faced significant technical and operational hurdles:
- Data Silos: Information was locked in rigid, closed systems located physically on drilling rigs, preventing real-time global oversight.
- Manual Engineering Workflows: Fragmented legacy code and manual processes slowed the development cycle and increased the risk of delivery friction.
- Operational Risk: Existing monitoring tools lacked the fast feedback loops and intuitive UX required for operators to make split-second decisions during high-risk drilling maneuvers.
- Scalability Barriers: The on-premise infrastructure could not support the client’s strategic shift toward full drilling automation and AI-enabled diagnostics.
Our Approach
Following the Norway–Thailand Hybrid Governance Model, Seven Peaks provided a senior-led delivery team that integrated directly into the client’s engineering culture.
Execution-First Discovery
Rather than strategy-only consulting, we conducted a deep-dive technical assessment of existing data flows and rig-operator workflows.
Senior-Heavy Delivery
We deployed a team of experienced practitioners—not junior developers—to ensure architectural integrity and manage the complexity of real-time industrial data streaming.
Industrial UX Focus
Our approach prioritized "Data Storytelling," moving beyond generic dashboards to design an interface that provides actionable situational awareness at the moment of need.
Our Solutions
Seven Peaks delivered a production-ready digital foundation focused on scale and safety:
Cloud-Native Re-platforming
We engineered a scalable cloud infrastructure capable of ingesting and processing high-frequency data from hundreds of rigs simultaneously, enabling centralized global monitoring.
Industrial "Central Cockpit"
We designed and built a modernized web interface that serves as the primary control layer for drilling operations, optimized for clarity and reduced cognitive load.
Safety-Critical Alerting Systems
The solution integrated intelligent visual and audible alerts for excessive-speed and sidetrack-prevention events, providing immediate feedback to prevent technical failures.
Modernized Engineering Stack
We refactored legacy components into a maintainable, high-performance codebase, reducing technical debt and enabling faster future iterations.
Key Outcomes and Strategic Partnership
The partnership has evolved from a technical modernization project into a long-term execution relationship that strengthens the client's market position:
Doubled Development Velocity
By institutionalizing better engineering practices and reducing delivery friction, Seven Peaks helped the client double their internal software development speed.
20+ Senior Consultant Scale
The client secured flexible, long-term access to a dedicated team of over 20 senior practitioners, allowing them to scale their product roadmap without the overhead of local hiring.
Global Operational Reliability
The centralized platform now provides real-time oversight for 200+ active drilling sites worldwide, significantly improving safety and response times.
Strategic Execution Continuity
Seven Peaks remains a trusted delivery partner, providing the governance and senior-led accountability required to support the client’s transition toward fully autonomous drilling.
